Writing Out Loud

Trees…

…that you are misunderstood

is an understatement of sorts

that few realize how crucial

you are to our own processes

to the very fact that we breathe

to the roofs over our heads

the chairs we sit in

the sweet we put on pancakes

on cold winter days

but do they know

what else you’re capable of

that you speak amongst yourselves

about the wind about the cold

about us

that you tell us things

merely by how you stand and move

that goes beyond

where the sun is in the sky

I don’t know why I know these things

I just do

maybe it’s because I’ve touched you

often enough taken the time

to make the connection

to become a branch of sorts

feeling the rush of you

rush through me

because that’s the way we all

get to know each other

isn’t it

by touching?

I've been writing personally and professionally for over 40 years, and recently started writing books for Amazon Kindle. During the last 25 years, I have also written for the Journal Tribune in Biddeford, Maine; the Maine Sunday Telegram in Portland, Maine; Current Publishing in Westbrook, Maine; and the Reporter, a weekly newspaper based in Waterboro, Maine. I recently released a book entitled "From the Urban Wilderness: Life in the Southern Maine Woods," which is a collection of essays taken from a weekly column I wrote for the Journal Tribune from 2010 to 2016. It is available from Amazon.com and CreateSpaceStore.com .
